The Amazon Tunnel

Probably my favorite attraction was the Amazon Tunnel. They had some large, HUGE fish which originate from the Amazon River. It was really nice seeing fish I was familiar with, (like the Pacus and Red-tailed Catfish) in their adult sizes, (which are rarely achieved in home fish tanks, due their space requirements).

My favorite here had to be the Arapaima! I had become familiar with this fish from the TV Program River Monsters. However, seeing the four or five Arapaima, which were housed in the Amazon Tunnel-tank up close and personal, gave me a real appreciation of how LARGE this fish can actually grow!

Penguin Palooza and Mumble, from Happy Feet
A bit of a "downer" for me (if you will) during my visit was the Penguin Pallooza display area. It showcased a number of different species of Penguin. I couldn't help but think back on one of the scenes towards the end in the movie Happy Feet, where Mumble had been captured, and found himself imprisoned in a display room (in a public aquarium), where his lack of freedom and space became quickly apparent, (along with the onset of insanity). ...Ok, back to "Happy" Thoughts!

Getting a bite to eat - Naturally at a local Seafood Restaurant - Mitchell's Fish Market
I finished my tour of the Newport Aquarium in just under 3 hours. Instead of jumping right back on the road, for the last leg of my return trip I opted to visit a seafood restaurant, which was located directly across the walkway.

Mitchell's Fish Market turned out to be a bit pricey - (I was probably paying partially for the gorgeous view which was there).
